The Lafouge family has been established in Auxey Duresses for generations, with records of the domaine dating back to 1650. Today, Jean and Gilles oversee around 10 hectares across the Côte de Beaune, including holdings in Meursault, Pommard and Auxey Duresses. Their approach is traditional and measured, with hand harvested fruit, careful vineyard work and an emphasis on expressing the character of each site. In the cellar, wines are aged in French oak, with little intervention before bottling.
Les Casse Têtes is a particularly interesting Meursault lieu dit, sitting high on the hillside above Les Gouttes d'Or and alongside Le Tesson. Its thin, rocky soils produce Chardonnay with plenty of energy and mineral definition. The wine combines ripe pear and citrus with white flowers, toasted nuts and a subtle savoury edge. Generous in texture but carried by fresh acidity and a distinctly stony finish, it offers a more precise, restrained expression of Meursault.
