Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes, Domaine Thomas Morey 2023
Domaine Thomas Morey
Domaine Thomas Morey is a family owned estate based in Chassagne Montrachet, representing the modern evolution of one of Burgundy’s most respected winegrowing families. Thomas Morey established his domaine in 2007 after working alongside his father at Domaine Bernard Morey, choosing to focus on meticulous parcel selection and precise vineyard farming across Chassagne Montrachet, Saint Aubin and surrounding appellations. The estate is known for its rigorous attention to detail in the vineyard, with sustainable viticulture and careful soil management aimed at preserving balance and site transparency. In the cellar, Thomas Morey employs a restrained approach, using indigenous fermentations, measured oak influence and long élevage to emphasise purity, texture and the structural identity of each climat.
Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Chenevottes is a Chardonnay from a well positioned Premier Cru site on the mid slopes of Chassagne, where limestone and clay soils provide a balance of richness and mineral tension. The vineyard benefits from good exposure and drainage, producing fruit with both ripeness and precision when carefully managed. Vines are farmed with low yields and meticulous canopy work to ensure even maturation and preserve natural acidity. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts in French oak barrels, followed by élevage on fine lees to build texture and complexity. A controlled proportion of new oak is used to support structure while maintaining clarity of fruit expression. The wine shows notes of lemon curd, ripe pear and white peach alongside hazelnut, citrus blossom and wet stone. The palate is supple yet focused, with fine concentration, balanced acidity and a long, saline mineral finish that reflects both site precision and the elegant power of Chassagne Montrachet.
