Domaine Claude Riffault is based in Sury en Vaux, in the heart of Sancerre, where the family has farmed vines since the early twentieth century. Claude Riffault took over the estate in 1985, expanding and refining it before passing day to day responsibility to his son Etienne in the early 2000s. The domaine now farms around thirteen hectares biodynamically, certified since 2011, with vineyards spread across the appellation’s key soil types including caillottes, terres blanches and silex. Work in the vineyard is meticulous and entirely manual, with low yields, careful canopy management and harvesting at full phenolic ripeness. In the cellar, the approach is precise and transparent, using indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction and restrained élevage to express site rather than technique.

From a limestone-rich, biodynamically farmed plot in Sury-en-Vaux, La Noue en Rosé is crafted from Pinot Noir using a blend of gently skin-macerated fruit and the first press juice destined for Stéphane Riffault’s La Noue Rouge. The 2024 vintage is perfumed and finely textured, showing wild strawberry, red cherry and citrus zest alongside a chalky mineral edge. Crunchy, elegant and vibrant, it combines remarkable concentration from the tiny yields of the vintage with the freshness and precision that define Riffault’s wines.
