Agricola VINB, led by Riccardo Sinesi, is one of the most compelling small producers in Sicily’s Vittoria region. With roots in Tuscan farming and a deep respect for biodynamics, Riccardo farms dry and wild vineyards in the arid hills around Acate and Ragusa, relying on minimal tools and maximal observation. His wines are all fermented spontaneously, handled by gravity, and bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur. The labels, often adorned with chaotic illustrations and tongue-in-cheek names, reflect the irreverent but sincere ethos behind this deeply artisanal project.
Zappa e Puta (roughly, “dig and f**k off”) is VINB’s Frappato, a varietal that thrives in the red sands and calcareous soils of Vittoria. 2023 was a classic southern Sicilian vintage, with consistent heat and strong diurnal shifts, giving compact, perfumed berries. The grapes were fermented whole cluster with a short maceration, then aged in fibreglass to retain lightness and aromatic clarity. This is bright, herbal and floral, showing sour cherry, blood orange, violets and dried oregano. The palate is silky and saline, with a long tapering finish. Pure Frappato character, with a wild and honest spirit.
