Alex Moreau is part of the Moreau family of Chassagne Montrachet, working alongside his father Bernard Moreau before establishing his own label and style. Based in the heart of the village, he draws on deep rooted family holdings across some of Chassagne’s most respected sites, with a focus on precise, site driven Chardonnay. Farming is carried out with a strong emphasis on sustainability and vineyard health, and in the cellar his approach is measured and exacting, favouring gentle pressing, controlled fermentations and élevage designed to balance richness with tension. While best known for white wines, his work with Pinot Noir follows the same philosophy of restraint, clarity and site transparency, aiming to capture finesse over extraction.

Les Caillerets is one of Volnay’s most refined Premier Cru sites, situated on stony, limestone rich soils that naturally produce wines of precision, perfume and finely etched structure. The vineyard tends to yield Pinot Noir with a lifted aromatic profile and a more linear, mineral driven backbone compared to broader Volnay sites. Moreau approaches the cuvée with a gentle hand, using partial whole bunch fermentation to enhance floral lift and structural definition, while keeping extraction controlled to preserve finesse. Elevage in barrel is carefully managed to frame the wine without masking its purity. The wine shows red cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, layered with rose petal, spice and a subtle crushed stone character. The palate is poised and elegant, with silky tannins and a long, precise finish that reflects the delicacy and persistence of Caillerets.
