Bret Brothers is the négociant arm of Domaine La Soufrandière, led by brothers Jean Guillaume and Jean Philippe Bret, who are based in the Mâconnais and have become key figures in the region’s shift toward high quality, terroir driven Chardonnay. Alongside their estate holdings, the Bret Brothers project allows them to work with trusted growers across southern Burgundy, applying the same organic and biodynamic principles and meticulous vineyard selection. Their approach centres on low intervention winemaking, native fermentations and careful élevage, with a focus on expressing site with clarity, energy and precision rather than weight or overt oak influence.

Bret Nat is a pétillant naturel made in the traditional method of ancestral sparkling wine, capturing fermentation in bottle without disgorgement to preserve texture and raw expression. The Lot 1 Cuvée Zen reflects a particularly restrained approach, prioritising purity, energy and minimal intervention. The base fruit is typically Chardonnay sourced from limestone and marl soils in the Mâconnais, bringing both ripeness and a clear mineral drive. Fermentation begins in tank before finishing in bottle, creating a naturally cloudy, lightly sparkling wine with fine, gentle bubbles. Aromatically it shows citrus peel, green apple and pear, with floral lift and a subtle yeasty, bready nuance. The palate is lively and textural, with bright acidity, soft mousse and a dry, saline finish that emphasises freshness and drinkability.
