Les Bottes Rouges was established in 2011 by Jean-Baptiste Menigoz in Abergement-le-Petit, just outside Arbois in the Jura region of eastern France. Menigoz studied oenology before founding the estate and initially worked with 2 hectares of vineyards, focusing on native Jura varieties. In 2014, Florien Kleine Snuverink, originally from the Netherlands and previously working with Yvon Métras in Beaujolais, joined the project. Together they expanded the estate to 7 hectares across clay, marl, and limestone soils in parcels around Abergement-le-Petit and the slopes above Arbois. The estate is farmed organically with a focus on soil health, biodiversity, and minimal intervention. Spontaneous fermentations, no fining or filtration, and minimal sulphur use are standard. The winery combines neutral barrels, large oak foudres, and concrete tanks to highlight terroir expression.

Arbois Chardonnay Léon 2022 comes from clay-heavy soils in Arbois. Grapes are harvested at the end of September and undergo direct pressing into 3,000L foudres for alcoholic and malolactic fermentation. The wine is protective and structured, with controlled oxygen exposure during ageing in 440L neutral barrels, yielding a complex, age-worthy Chardonnay with bright mineral tension, layered texture, and depth.
