Bodega Comando G is made up of Fernando García, Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Marc Isart. They met in 2005 while at university where they forged their friendship based on a mutual passion: making first-rate Garnacha wines, which capture and express the terroir of the unique plots where the grapes are grown. Three years later, in 2008, they launched the Comando G (G for Garnacha) business venture. Although there are some who affectionately call them the ‘enochalados’ (‘crazy oenologists’), in reality, this ‘online cooperative bodega’ (as described by El Mundo Vino) is carrying out the very serious task of searching for old-vine vineyards planted with the Garnacha grape variety in the Sierra de Gredos, between the provinces of Madrid and Ávila.

Tumba del Rey Moro is one of Comando G’s most iconic single vineyard Garnacha sites, located in the Sierra de Gredos on steep, granitic slopes near the village of Cebreros. The vineyard sits at very high altitude, often above 1,100 metres, in a rugged, forest edged landscape where poor decomposed granite soils and quartz fragments dominate the profile. The vines are ancient bush trained Garnacha, planted on extreme inclines that require fully manual cultivation and result in exceptionally low yields. The combination of altitude, poor soils and a cool continental mountain climate produces a wine of striking finesse and aromatic lift despite its inherent concentration. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts and a significant proportion of whole clusters, contributing spice, floral detail and structural precision. Ageing takes place in large oak foudres and concrete vats to preserve purity and terroir definition. The wine is deeply expressive yet refined, showing layers of wild strawberry, red cherry and pomegranate alongside rose petals, thyme, white pepper and crushed granite. The palate is powerful yet weightless in feel, with finely grained tannins, vibrant acidity and a long, mineral finish that reflects both the altitude and the austere granitic terroir of this legendary site.
