Domaine Claude Riffault is based in Sury en Vaux, in the heart of Sancerre, where the family has farmed vines since the early twentieth century. Claude Riffault took over the estate in 1985, expanding and refining it before passing day to day responsibility to his son Etienne in the early 2000s. The domaine now farms around thirteen hectares biodynamically, certified since 2011, with vineyards spread across the appellation’s key soil types including caillottes, terres blanches and silex. Work in the vineyard is meticulous and entirely manual, with low yields, careful canopy management and harvesting at full phenolic ripeness. In the cellar, the approach is precise and transparent, using indigenous yeasts, gentle extraction and restrained élevage to express site rather than technique.

Sancerre Les Chasseignes 2023 comes from Sauvignon Blanc grown on classic caillottes limestone soils in the north‑east of Sury‑en‑Vaux at around 270–280 metres altitude. The 2023 vintage produced healthy fruit with lively acidity and pronounced minerality. Grapes were hand harvested and fermented with native yeasts in a combination of stainless steel and neutral oak, with some partial malolactic fermentation. Ageing continued on fine lees for 14 months to build texture while maintaining freshness. The resulting wine is taut and expressive, showing citrus zest, white peach, green apple and stony minerality, with a long, saline finish.
