Bret Brothers is the négociant arm of Domaine La Soufrandière, led by brothers Jean Guillaume and Jean Philippe Bret, who are based in the Mâconnais and have become key figures in the region’s shift toward high quality, terroir driven Chardonnay. Alongside their estate holdings, the Bret Brothers project allows them to work with trusted growers across southern Burgundy, applying the same organic and biodynamic principles and meticulous vineyard selection. Their approach centres on low intervention winemaking, native fermentations and careful élevage, with a focus on expressing site with clarity, energy and precision rather than weight or overt oak influence.

La Bonnode is a Saint Véran climat situated on limestone and clay rich slopes within the appellation, producing Chardonnay that balances ripe fruit character with a firm, mineral driven structure. The site tends to show a clear sense of definition rather than overt richness, with natural freshness shaped by altitude and well drained soils. In the Cuvée Zen interpretation, the Brets prioritise purity and energy, allowing spontaneous fermentation to unfold naturally in barrel and keeping élevage deliberately restrained to preserve tension and detail. The wine shows ripe citrus, green apple and pear, alongside white flowers, almond and a subtle saline, limestone derived edge. The palate is supple but focused, with fine acidity and a clean, linear finish that reflects both site clarity and a gentle winemaking hand.
