Domaine de Lorient is a small, family run estate based in the northern Rhône, working within and around the Saint Péray appellation on the right bank of the Rhône Valley. The domaine is part of a growing group of artisanal producers in the region focused on precise, terroir driven wines rather than the richer, more oxidative traditional styles historically associated with some Saint Péray production. Viticulture is typically carried out with careful vineyard management on steep and granitic influenced slopes, where altitude and exposure help retain freshness in a generally warm climate. In the cellar, the approach is restrained, favouring indigenous fermentations and measured élevage designed to preserve aromatic lift and site definition.
Saint Péray is a white wine appellation in the northern Rhône known for Marsanne and Roussanne, producing still wines with a balance of ripe stone fruit and underlying freshness. In this example, the wine reflects the appellation’s more modern, precise interpretation, showing a focus on clarity rather than oxidative richness. There's a really attractive nose to this wine, a touch of reduction initially with apricot, hazelnuts and anis gradually unfurling. It's very pure, tense and elegant on the palate, with typical granitic verticality and salinity on the finish. Impressive for such young vines, the future is bright.
