Domaine du Monteillet is a family estate in the Northern Rhône Valley overseen by Stéphane Montez, the tenth generation to manage the vineyards. Stéphane trained extensively both in France and internationally, including studies in Burgundy and Rhône winemaking, and gained hands-on experience in several other wine regions before returning to the family estate. He is known for his meticulous vineyard management, attention to terroir expression and hands-on approach in the cellar. Under his guidance, the estate has expanded its holdings across Condrieu, Côte‑Rôtie and Saint‑Joseph, combining traditional techniques with careful experimentation to produce wines that balance power, finesse and aromatic precision.
The 2023 Saint Joseph Rouge is made from 100 % Syrah grown on granitic soils in the northern part of the appellation near Chavanay. The wine undergoes several weeks of maceration with long, gradual fermentation, followed by ageing for around 14 months in French oak demi‑muids. It shows a ruby red colour with aromas of red fruit, violet and spice, firm yet ripe tannins and a persistent, elegant finish that reflects both its terroir and careful élevage.
