Domaine du Monteillet is a family‑owned estate in the Condrieu appellation on the right bank of the Rhône Valley near Chavanay. The domaine has been in the Villard/Montez family for generations, and Stéphane Montez now oversees viticulture and winemaking, drawing on experience gained in vineyards around the world. Vineyards lie on steep, terraced slopes supported by dry‑stone walls (“chaillées”) and face south to capture sunlight and preserve aromatic purity. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted, and the estate uses gentle, controlled winemaking techniques to reflect the unique granite‑based terroir.
A beautifully expressive Northern Rhône white blending 70% Roussanne with 30% old-vine Marsanne, grown on the granitic slopes of Chavanay at the northern end of Saint-Joseph. Hand-harvested and gently pressed, the wine undergoes malolactic fermentation on its lees before ageing for 11 months in French oak barrels and demi-muids. Ripe nectarine and yellow orchard fruit meet orange peel, white flowers and subtle toasted notes. The palate is generous and textured yet remarkably fresh, with lively acidity, fine mineral tension and a gentle bitter note bringing definition to the finish. Rich without becoming heavy, with the freshness and granitic character that distinguish the best white Saint-Joseph.
