Domaine Jean-Baptiste Ponsot is one of the leading estates of Rully in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. Taking over the family domaine at just 20 years old in 2000, Jean-Baptiste has steadily elevated the estate through meticulous vineyard work and a clear focus on expressing the character of Rully’s finest slopes. Today, the domaine farms around 9 hectares, much of it Premier Cru sites, with a strong emphasis on Chardonnay.  Working sustainably without herbicides and with deep attention to soil health and vineyard balance, Jean-Baptiste produces wines that combine precision, freshness and texture. In the cellar, élevage is carefully judged, with around 12 months in oak barrels followed by additional time in tank to preserve energy and purity.  The resulting wines are vibrant and mineral-driven, balancing bright fruit with subtle oak influence and the natural tension of Rully’s limestone soils. Increasingly sought after, they offer some of the finest value and most compelling expressions of the Côte Chalonnaise today.

Rully En Bas de Vauvry 2023 comes from a limestone-rich parcel at the foot of the slope in Rully, where Jean-Baptiste Ponsot crafts a vibrant, mineral expression of Chardonnay. The nose opens with citrus, white peach and subtle floral notes, alongside a gentle touch of hazelnut from lees ageing. On the palate, it is precise and energetic, balancing textural depth with bright acidity and a chalky saline finish. Elegant and understated, it captures the freshness and finesse that define the finest whites of the Côte Chalonnaise.
