Tenuta Le Potazzine is a small organic estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, founded in 1993 by Gigliola Giannetti. The name comes from a local expression meaning little birds, the affectionate nickname Gigliola’s mother gave to her daughters Viola and Sofia, who today work alongside her at the domaine. The estate farms around five hectares planted exclusively to Sangiovese, divided between the high altitude Le Prata plateau north of Montalcino at approximately 500 metres above sea level and lower lying parcels near Sant’Angelo in Colle. Vineyard work is entirely manual, with low yields and organic practices focused on preserving balance and site expression. In the cellar, vinification is resolutely traditional, with spontaneous fermentations and long ageing in large and medium sized Slavonian oak casks, aiming for finesse, clarity and longevity rather than power.

Rosso di Montalcino 2021 is produced from younger vines and selected parcels not destined for Brunello, offering an earlier drinking expression of the estate’s style. The 2021 vintage was warm but well balanced, with sufficient diurnal variation to preserve acidity and aromatic definition. Fermentation takes place with native yeasts, followed by a shorter ageing period in large neutral oak. The resulting wine is vibrant and transparent, with crunchy red cherry, raspberry and dried Mediterranean herbs, supported by supple tannins and a fresh, sapid finish.
