Bret Brothers is the négociant arm of Domaine La Soufrandière, led by brothers Jean Guillaume and Jean Philippe Bret, who are based in the Mâconnais and have become key figures in the region’s shift toward high quality, terroir driven Chardonnay. Alongside their estate holdings, the Bret Brothers project allows them to work with trusted growers across southern Burgundy, applying the same organic and biodynamic principles and meticulous vineyard selection. Their approach centres on low intervention winemaking, native fermentations and careful élevage, with a focus on expressing site with clarity, energy and precision rather than weight or overt oak influence.

Les Longeays is a Pouilly Vinzelles site defined by clay limestone soils that tend to produce a slightly broader, more enveloping expression of Chardonnay while retaining a firm mineral core. Compared to more elevated or stonier sites, the profile here leans toward texture and depth, with fruit that carries a natural ripeness balanced by underlying freshness. The Brets approach the cuvée with restraint, allowing the vineyard’s natural generosity to come through without excess weight. Aromatically, the wine opens with ripe citrus, yellow apple and pear, alongside white flowers, almond and a subtle creamy nuance from lees ageing. The palate is layered and supple, with a rounded mid palate balanced by a saline, mineral finish that keeps the wine precise and composed.
