Lucien Boillot has been producing wines in Volnay and the northern Côte de Beaune since 1980, inheriting a family estate with a long history of Pinot Noir cultivation. Boillot now manages 5 hectares spanning Volnay, Pommard, and Gevrey-Chambertin, with a strong focus on premier cru parcels including Les Caillerets, Clos des Angles, Les Brouillards, Les Croix Noires, Les Cherbaudes, and Les Corbeaux. The estate prioritises low intervention viticulture, meticulous canopy management, and hand-harvesting. Soils vary from clay-limestone slopes to mid-slope marl, giving each cru its unique identity. All fermentations are with indigenous yeasts, and wines are aged in older and neutral French oak barrels for 12 to 16 months depending on cru, with minimal sulphur, no fining, and no filtration. The philosophy is to express both the terroir of each village and the subtle differences of individual crus.

Pommard 1er Cru Les Croix Noires 2022 comes from mid-slope clay-limestone parcels in Les Croix Noires, known for its power, structure, and earthy complexity. The 2022 vintage was warm with even ripening, producing black cherry, plum, and subtle mineral aromas with firm but elegant tannins. Grapes were hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts, and aged 14 months in French oak barrels, producing a structured, powerful, and age-worthy Pommard.
