Elio Ottin is based in Quart, just east of Aosta, where his family has farmed vineyards for generations before establishing the estate under his own name in 1999. The vineyards lie on steep alpine slopes between 650 and 800 metres above sea level, among the highest in Europe, on glacial moraine and sandy alluvial soils. Farming is carried out sustainably with a strong emphasis on manual work, low yields and precise site expression. The extreme altitude and mountain climate shape a distinctly fresh and transparent style, with Ottin recognised as one of Valle d’Aosta’s leading interpreters of cool climate alpine viticulture.
Pinot Noir Valle d’Aosta 2023 is sourced from high altitude parcels where long daylight hours and cool nights slow ripening and preserve aromatic clarity. The 2023 vintage delivered healthy fruit with moderate alcohol and vivid acidity. Grapes were harvested by hand and fermented gently to limit extraction, followed by ageing that prioritises finesse over structure. The wine is light on its feet and finely detailed, showing wild strawberry, red cherry and subtle alpine herb notes, with silky tannins and a lifted, mineral finish.
