Cyprien Arlaud is part of the third generation at Domaine Arlaud in Morey Saint Denis, a family estate established in the mid twentieth century with holdings across the Côte de Nuits. He has progressively converted the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, with a strong emphasis on soil health and precise vineyard work. His approach in the cellar is restrained and detail focused, aiming to translate each site with clarity and finesse rather than power, and his parcels are worked with precision to highlight the nuances of each climat.
Pernand Vergelesses comes from vineyards located at the northern gateway of the Côte de Beaune, where the slopes sit between the limestone escarpment of Corton and cooler hillside exposures. This position produces wines with a naturally linear and slightly more restrained profile, often marked by a firm mineral backbone and bright red fruit expression. Arlaud applies his low intervention approach here with partial whole bunch depending on the vintage, native yeast fermentation and gentle extraction to preserve purity and detail. Ageing takes place in French oak with a modest proportion of new wood, ensuring the terroir remains at the forefront. The wine is precise and lifted, showing red cherry, cranberry and subtle floral notes, with fine tannins and a saline edged finish.
