Tenuta Le Potazzine is a small organic estate in Montalcino, Tuscany, founded in 1993 by Gigliola Giannetti. The name comes from a local expression meaning little birds, the affectionate nickname Gigliola’s mother gave to her daughters Viola and Sofia, who today work alongside her at the domaine. The estate farms around five hectares planted exclusively to Sangiovese, divided between the high altitude Le Prata plateau north of Montalcino at approximately 500 metres above sea level and lower lying parcels near Sant’Angelo in Colle. Vineyard work is entirely manual, with low yields and organic practices focused on preserving balance and site expression. In the cellar, vinification is resolutely traditional, with spontaneous fermentations and long ageing in large and medium sized Slavonian oak casks, aiming for finesse, clarity and longevity rather than power.

Parus 2016 is a Toscana Rosso IGT made from 100 percent Sangiovese, produced as a freer, more immediate expression of the estate’s fruit rather than a Brunello or Rosso di Montalcino. The wine is typically sourced from younger vines and parcels not selected for the DOCG wines, allowing greater flexibility in élevage and release. The 2016 vintage delivered ripe, healthy fruit with excellent balance, and the wine was fermented with indigenous yeasts, followed by ageing focused on preserving freshness rather than structure. The style is open and expressive, showing bright cherry, redcurrant and subtle earthy notes, with supple tannins and a clean, savoury finish that reflects its Montalcino origins without the weight of extended oak ageing.
