Weingut von Hövel is one of the Saar’s historic estates, its origins rooted in the eighteenth century when the vineyards were owned by a monastery and later acquired by the von Hövel family. The estate has long been associated with the Oberemmeler Hütte site, whose steep, slate rich slopes have been recognised for quality for generations. As a member of the VDP, the domaine focuses on classified Erste Lage and Grosse Lage vineyards, combining traditional large oak fermentations with precise, modern vineyard management. The steep Devonian slate soils and cool Saar climate produce Rieslings defined by tension, clarity and longevity.
Oberemmeler Hütte is designated Grosse Lage, and the GG represents the dry grand cru expression of the site. The 2019 vintage delivered ripe, healthy fruit balanced by the Saar’s hallmark acidity. Aromatically the wine shows lime zest, green apple and white peach layered with smoky slate and delicate herbal nuance. The palate is tightly coiled and mineral driven, with dense extract framed by precise acidity and a long saline finish. It is both concentrated and finely etched, with the structure to evolve gracefully over time.
