Based around the town of Cambados, in the sub-region of Val do Salnés in Rías Baixas, Alberto owns 2.2 hectares of vines, all Albariño, divided into 12 parcels. After a few years of conventional farming, he decided to abandon chemical treatments altogether and became fully organic, although he also dabbles in biodynamics. His vineyards, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, benefit from daily sea breezes while the granitic soils, so common in the region, bring incredible minerality and freshness to his wines. In the winery his approach is as natural as possible, and apart from the use of small amounts of sulfur, he is basically hands-off, allowing each vintage to express itself. The different parcels are vinified separately and then blended to assemble the different cuvées.
O Bocoi Vello sources its fruit from three separate vineyard plots, each with its own
distinctive character: there are two plots in the Sanxenxo village, the Ferreira vineyard
and the Salgueira vineyard, and another plot in the Meaño village: plot Choqueira.
The soil types and aspects are different in each plot, with a mix of sandy, clay and
decomposed soils and northeast, western and southeaster orientation respectively. A new cuvée from Alberto, this is his most textural, mouth filling wine, bottled with a
touch of residual sugar to fuse its acidity. It has notes of lime juice, lemon jelly, sea salt and a dash of acacia flower.
