Cyprien Arlaud is part of the third generation at Domaine Arlaud in Morey Saint Denis, a family estate established in the mid twentieth century with holdings across the Côte de Nuits. He has progressively converted the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, with a strong emphasis on soil health and precise vineyard work. His approach in the cellar is restrained and detail focused, aiming to translate each site with clarity and finesse rather than power, and his parcels are worked with precision to highlight the nuances of each climat.
Nuits Saint Georges is a village level cuvée drawn from several parcels across the appellation, combining sites with varying soil structures to build both depth and balance. While the appellation is often associated with firmer, more structured expressions of Pinot Noir, careful vineyard selection and élevage allow for a more composed and detailed style. Arlaud works with a proportion of whole bunch depending on the conditions, fermenting with indigenous yeasts and extracting gently to avoid over emphasis on tannin. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels with restrained use of new wood. The wine shows dark cherry and blackberry fruit with subtle spice and earth, supported by fine but present tannins and a fresh mineral backbone that carries through a long, structured finish.
