Cyprien Arlaud is part of the third generation at Domaine Arlaud in Morey Saint Denis, a family estate established in the mid twentieth century with holdings across the Côte de Nuits. He has progressively converted the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, with a strong emphasis on soil health and precise vineyard work. His approach in the cellar is restrained and detail focused, aiming to translate each site with clarity and finesse rather than power, and his parcels are worked with precision to highlight the nuances of each climat.
Nuits Saint Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots lies at the northern end of the appellation, close to Vosne Romanée, where lighter soils and greater limestone content bring a more lifted and perfumed expression than is typical for the village. Arlaud works with partial whole bunch depending on the vintage, fermenting with indigenous yeasts and extracting gently to preserve aromatic detail. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels with a restrained proportion of new wood. The wine shows a more elegant side of Nuits Saint Georges, with red cherry, raspberry and floral notes, fine grained tannins and a fresh, mineral line that carries through a long, precise finish.
