Natalino del Prete is a pioneer in Puglia when it comes to winemaking. Generally, the region’s wines are mechanically harvested, chemically farmed and produced in mass in massive tank farm wineries. However, Natalino stands out from the rest and has not only remained small (10ha of which 3 are olives), he farms without the use of mechanization or chemicals. He is the 3rd generation of winemakers and has been the first to concentrate on working his 7ha of up to 80 year old vines sustainably and now organically. Ferments are natural, there are no sulphur additions (or any additions whatsoever) and new wood is a no-no.
Natalino's Primitivo is just enchanting – not a word that you would normally associated with this southern beast of a grape variety. Whilst no shrinking violet it does have aromas of violets as well as flavours of black cherries, plums, oriental spice and liquorice and the natural drinkability that we associate with Natalino’s wines.
