Thibault Liger Belair took over the family domaine in 2001, re establishing a historic Nuits Saint Georges estate whose roots trace back several generations within one of Burgundy’s most recognised families. While distinct from the Vosne Romanee branch of the Liger Belair lineage, Thibault has built his domaine with a clear, independent identity, steadily expanding holdings through both inheritance and carefully selected parcels. Today the estate spans key sites across the Cote de Nuits and Beaujolais, reflecting his dual focus on Pinot Noir and Gamay, and his interest in expressing site across different terroirs. He farms organically, with biodynamic principles increasingly informing vineyard work, and places strong emphasis on vine health, soil vitality, and precise harvest timing. In the cellar, his approach is deliberate and restrained, often incorporating whole bunch fermentation, favouring gentle extraction, and adapting elevage to each cuvee to balance structure with clarity of fruit and terroir expression.

Vieilles Vignes is sourced from old vine parcels across Moulin a Vent, where deep rooted Gamay on decomposed granite and manganese rich soils naturally delivers low yields and significant concentration. The age of the vines brings an added layer of density and complexity, while retaining the appellation’s signature mineral tension. Liger Belair works the cuvée with a careful, low intervention approach, using a proportion of whole bunch fermentation to enhance aromatic lift and structural detail. Extraction is controlled but sufficiently long to build texture, and elevage takes place in neutral barrels and large format vessels to preserve purity and site expression. The wine shows concentrated black cherry, blackberry and wild raspberry, interwoven with violet florals, crushed stone and spice. The palate is deep and structured yet vibrant, with fine but firm tannins and a long, saline mineral finish shaped by old vine depth and granite driven precision.
