Daniel Bouland was born in 1973 and inherited a family passion for Beaujolais, though his formal winemaking journey began with studies in viticulture and oenology in Beaune. He founded his own estate in 2003 after several years working with local Beaujolais growers, determined to create wines that reflect the distinct terroirs of the region’s crus. Bouland focuses on Morgon, Côte de Brouilly, and Chiroubles, farming organically with attention to soil health, biodiversity, and low-intervention winemaking. He uses hand harvesting, whole-cluster fermentations, spontaneous yeasts, and minimal sulphur. A combination of cement, stainless steel, and older oak vessels allow him to showcase both freshness and terroir specificity.
Morgon Corcelette Vieilles Vignes Cailloux 2023 comes from south-facing, steep slopes in the Corcelette sector of Morgon, planted on decomposed granite and sandy soils. This part of Morgon is notable for producing wines with depth and minerality distinct from the more generous fruit of the Bellevue or Corcelette upper slopes. The Vieilles Vignes (over 60 years old) give concentration and structure, while the Cailloux (pebble) soils add texture and stony definition. The 2023 vintage was warm but tempered by cool nights, producing ripe cherry and raspberry notes with bright, mouthwatering acidity. Grapes were hand-harvested, 100% whole-cluster fermented, and aged in a mix of older oak barrels and cement to preserve freshness and terroir purity.
