Morey-Saint-Denis, Dujac Fils & Pere 2022
Dujac Fils & Père
Dujac Fils & Père sits within the extended project of Domaine Dujac in Morey Saint Denis, one of the most influential estates in modern Burgundy. Founded by Jacques Seysses in the late 1960s, the domaine became a reference point for a shift away from heavy extraction in Côte de Nuits Pinot Noir, particularly through its early and consistent use of whole cluster fermentation to build perfume, texture and fine tannic structure. That stylistic identity has been continued and refined by Jeremy Seysses, with a strong emphasis on transparency of fruit, aromatic lift and ageing potential built on balance rather than weight. The Fils & Père négociant label extends this philosophy beyond the domaine’s own vineyards, but remains tightly controlled by the same team, with fruit selected from growers working to comparable standards. The appeal of these wines lies in their consistency of expression, clearly echoing the domaine’s signature style across a broader range of village level sites in the Côte de Nuits.
This Morey Saint Denis comes from village level parcels within the appellation, where limestone rich soils mixed with clay and scree deposits produce a slightly firmer and more structured expression of Pinot Noir compared to neighbouring Chambolle Musigny. The site typically delivers darker fruit profile and a more linear tannic backbone, while still retaining aromatic detail and lift. In line with the Dujac approach, a proportion of whole cluster is used depending on vintage, contributing spice, florality and structural framing, while extraction is kept controlled to preserve finesse. Elevage takes place in French oak barrels with a restrained proportion of new oak, ensuring integration without overshadowing the fruit. The wine shows red and dark cherry, raspberry and blackberry, with violet florals, subtle spice and a fine earthy, mineral edge. The palate is structured yet supple, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long, composed finish that reflects both the more serious profile of Morey Saint Denis and the refined Dujac signature.
