Stéphane Magnien is based in Morey Saint Denis and represents a family domaine with deep roots in the Cote de Nuits, working a small but focused range of appellations across Gevrey Chambertin, Morey Saint Denis and Chambolle Musigny. The estate is built around careful parcel selection and traditional Burgundian winemaking, with an emphasis on vineyard precision and restrained cellar intervention. Magnien tends to favour fruit clarity and site expression over extraction or overt oak influence, with farming that prioritises healthy soils, balanced yields and harvest timing that preserves freshness. The style across the domaine leans toward classical structure with an understated approach to élevage, allowing each terroir to speak without excess handling in the cellar.

Les Faconnières is a Morey Saint Denis Premier Cru situated on mid to upper slopes where limestone and clay are finely interwoven, producing wines that combine the village’s natural depth with a more lifted, mineral driven profile. The site tends to give a slightly darker fruit spectrum than some neighbouring climats, while retaining precision and aromatic detail. In this cuvée, Magnien employs a restrained extraction with a proportion of whole bunch fermentation to enhance structure and perfume without adding weight. Elevage in barrel is carefully moderated, with limited new oak to preserve transparency. The wine shows black cherry, raspberry and dark plum notes, layered with violet florals, spice and a subtle earthy, graphite like edge. The palate is poised and structured, with fine tannins and a long, savoury mineral finish that reflects both the depth and clarity of the terroir.
