Domaine Derain is a family‑run estate in Burgundy founded in 1988 by Dominique Derain and now managed by Julien Altaber and Carole Schwab. The domaine farms vineyards organically and biodynamically on clay and limestone soils around Saint‑Aubin and beyond. They work with old vines and focus on minimal intervention in the cellar, using indigenous yeasts and traditional fermentations to allow the purity of fruit and terroir to speak in their wines.
Mercurey Rouge Plante Chassey 2022 is a red wine from the Mercurey AOC made primarily from Pinot Noir with a small component of Pinot Beurot, a traditional Burgundian variation related to Pinot Gris found in older plantings on the Plante Chassey parcel. The grapes are hand harvested and partially destemmed before fermentation with indigenous yeasts in wooden vessels followed by ageing on lees in older barrels for around ten months. The wine shows bright red fruit and spice aromatics with earthy and mineral nuances, softened tannins and an elegant structure that reflects the clay and marl influenced soils of Mercurey.
