Sylvain Pataille is one of Burgundy’s most thoughtful and meticulous vignerons, quietly redefining what’s possible in Marsannay. Trained as an oenologist in Bordeaux, he began consulting for others before starting his own domaine in 1999 with just one hectare. Today, he farms over 15 hectares biodynamically, focusing on low yields, native yeast fermentations, and minimal intervention in the cellar. Sylvain is deeply committed to the expressive potential of Pinot Noir and Aligoté, working with old vines and historic lieux-dits. His wines are precise, textural, and soulful, anchored in limestone and crafted with the humility and rigor of a true artisan.
Les Longeroies is widely regarded as one of the finest climats in Marsannay, defined by limestone rich soils that lend precision and tension to Pinot Noir. The 2022 vintage brought warmth and concentration, yet careful picking preserved freshness and structure. Fruit is hand harvested, partially whole bunch depending on ripeness, and fermented with indigenous yeasts. Ageing takes place in French oak barrels with a modest proportion of new wood. The wine shows vivid red cherry, wild strawberry and rose petal, framed by fine tannins and a mineral backbone that gives lift and length.
