Mark Angeli of Ferme de la Sansonnière is one of the Loire’s most uncompromising and influential vignerons. Based in Thouarcé in Anjou, he has farmed biodynamically since the late 1980s, working with horse ploughing, extremely low yields and meticulous canopy management to protect balance and concentration. In the cellar, fermentations are slow and spontaneous, with long élevage and minimal additions, allowing Chenin Blanc to transmit both power and transparency from schist rich soils.
La Lune 2023 comes from old vine Chenin planted on schist slopes in Anjou, a site that consistently delivers both generosity and tension. The 2023 vintage brought ripeness and concentration, yet retained the firm acidity that defines Angeli’s style. The wine shows quince, ripe pear and citrus oil layered with subtle honeyed notes and a pronounced mineral backbone. In magnum, the scale and ageing potential are amplified, promising even greater harmony over time.
