Domaine des Vignes du Maynes is based in Cruzille in the northern Mâconnais and has been farmed by the Guillot family since the early twentieth century. Julien Guillot took full responsibility for the estate in 1998 and immediately committed the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, making it one of the earliest adopters in Burgundy. The domaine works a mosaic of old vine parcels on limestone and clay soils at elevations between 300 and 400 metres, with many vines planted between the nineteen twenties and nineteen fifties. All work in the vines is manual, yields are extremely low, and harvesting is carried out parcel by parcel with strict selection. In the cellar Guillot follows a resolutely low intervention philosophy built on whole cluster fermentations, indigenous yeasts, no additions and long élevage in neutral vessels, aiming to transmit site, vine age and vintage character with absolute clarity.

The 2023 Mâcon Rouge comes from south-facing Gamay parcels with clay and limestone soils. The vintage was warm and sunny, producing ripe, expressive fruit while maintaining freshness through cooler nights. Grapes were hand-picked, partially destemmed, and fermented with native yeasts in stainless steel. The wine was aged briefly on fine lees to build texture, with minimal sulphur added at bottling. Aromas of red berries, cherry, and subtle floral notes are lifted by a stony mineral character. The palate is bright and precise, with juicy fruit, lively acidity, and a clean, terroir-driven finish.
