Hugues Godmé is an independent grower producer based in Verzenay in the Montagne de Reims in Champagne. The estate has been farmed organically since 2006 with organic certification achieved in 2013 and biodynamic certification in 2014. It comprises vineyards across several Premier Cru and Grand Cru villages including Verzenay, Verzy, Villers Marmery and Ville Dommange. Hugues works with his daughter Lucille, focusing on manual vineyard work, indigenous yeast fermentation and minimal intervention in the cellar to produce champagnes that express the character of each terroir. The Premier Cru cuvées blend fruit from the estate’s top parcels and are vinified with careful ageing to develop both freshness and complexity.
Les Terres D’Unions 1er Cru NV from Hugues Godmé is a Champagne made from a blend of the three principal local varieties — Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier — typically in roughly one third each, sourced from Premier Cru sites across Verzenay, Verzy, Villers Marmery and Ville Dommange. The base wine is fermented partly in oak, and after blending it is aged on lees with very little or no dosage as a Brut Nature. This cuvée shows vibrant citrus and orchard fruit notes with chalk driven minerality and delicate brioche and almond complexity from extended lees ageing, with lively bead and freshness.
