Clos des Bretèches is one of the Loire’s most exciting young estates, founded in 2021 by Mélanie Grenouilleau and Romain Nicolas in the heart of Anjou Noir. Despite its recent beginnings, the domaine has already gained a devoted following, with demand far exceeding its tiny production. Both bring strong experience from some of the Loire’s most respected estates. Mélanie trained with Patrick Baudouin, Emmanuel Ogereau, and later worked alongside Mark and Martial Angeli at Ferme de la Sansonnière, while Romain built his craft through roles at Domaine Richou and Terra Vita Vinum.
The estate takes its name from their first vineyard, Clos des Bretèches, a 1.2ha organically farmed site in Grand Bonnezeaux acquired under the guidance of Mark Angeli. Today they farm 2.6ha organically, crafting precise, energetic wines that beautifully capture the tension, depth and mineral character of Anjou Noir.
From a 1.4ha parcel of 40-year-old Chenin Blanc planted on spilite soils, Les Pélioches is the richest and most gourmand cuvée in the range. Layers of ripe orchard fruit, citrus and gentle honeyed notes are balanced by vibrant acidity and a marked mineral freshness. Textural yet precise, it combines depth, energy and saline tension in a beautifully expressive style.
