Bodega Comando G is made up of Fernando García, Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Marc Isart. They met in 2005 while at university where they forged their friendship based on a mutual passion: making first-rate Garnacha wines, which capture and express the terroir of the unique plots where the grapes are grown. Three years later, in 2008, they launched the Comando G (G for Garnacha) business venture. Although there are some who affectionately call them the ‘enochalados’ (‘crazy oenologists’), in reality, this ‘online cooperative bodega’ (as described by El Mundo Vino) is carrying out the very serious task of searching for old-vine vineyards planted with the Garnacha grape variety in the Sierra de Gredos, between the provinces of Madrid and Ávila.

La Breña 1er Cru is a single vineyard Garnacha from one of Comando G’s most distinctive high altitude parcels in the Sierra de Gredos, situated on steep granite slopes above the village zone. Classified at a higher tier within the estate’s village hierarchy, this site is considered capable of producing wines with greater depth, structural precision and ageing potential than the standard village cuvées. The vineyard sits at extreme altitude on decomposed granite and quartz rich soils with very low organic matter, forcing the old bush vines to root deeply and naturally limiting yields. La Brena 1er Cru grapes come from 2 small plots next to Rumbo Al Norte vineyard. These conditions produce fruit of remarkable concentration while retaining a cool, lifted aromatic profile due to the sharp diurnal range. Fermentation is carried out with indigenous yeasts and a significant proportion of whole clusters, enhancing spice, floral lift and structural definition. Ageing takes place in large oak foudres and concrete vats to preserve purity and site transparency. The wine shows a more serious and structured profile than the village wines, with concentrated red cherry, wild strawberry and pomegranate layered with violet, thyme, white pepper and crushed granite. The palate is finely coiled and linear, with firm but refined tannins, vibrant acidity and a long mineral finish that reflects both altitude and the granitic origin of La Breña.
