La Bruja de Rozas, Comando G 2024
Comando G
Bodega Comando G is made up of Fernando García, Daniel Gómez Jiménez-Landi and Marc Isart. They met in 2005 while at university where they forged their friendship based on a mutual passion: making first-rate Garnacha wines, which capture and express the terroir of the unique plots where the grapes are grown. Three years later, in 2008, they launched the Comando G (G for Garnacha) business venture. Although there are some who affectionately call them the ‘enochalados’ (‘crazy oenologists’), in reality, this ‘online cooperative bodega’ (as described by El Mundo Vino) is carrying out the very serious task of searching for old-vine vineyards planted with the Garnacha grape variety in the Sierra de Gredos, between the provinces of Madrid and Ávila.
La Bruja de Rozas is sourced from a collection of old vine Garnacha parcels around the village of Rozas de Puerto Real, one of the highest and coolest sectors of the Sierra de Gredos. The vineyards sit between 850 and 950 metres above sea level on decomposed granite and quartz soils, where poor fertility and a continental mountain climate naturally limit yields and preserve freshness. The vines are predominantly old bush trained Garnacha, many planted decades ago on steep slopes and tiny terraces. Fermentation takes place with indigenous yeasts, with a proportion of whole clusters used to enhance aromatic lift and structural detail. Ageing is carried out in large oak vats and concrete vessels, preserving fruit purity and mineral definition rather than imparting oak character. The wine is intensely expressive, showing wild strawberry, red cherry and pomegranate alongside mountain herbs, rose petals and crushed granite. The palate is vibrant and finely textured, with delicate tannins, bright acidity and a distinctly mineral finish that captures the energy and altitude of Rozas de Puerto Real.
