Domaine Sylvain Cathiard is a Vosne Romanée based estate recognised as one of the reference producers of the Côte de Nuits, now run by Sébastien Cathiard, who continues to refine the domaine’s already highly precise and detail driven style. The estate is built on meticulous vineyard work, very low yields and careful parcel selection across Vosne Romanée, Nuits Saint Georges and surrounding appellations. The philosophy in both vineyard and cellar prioritises purity of fruit, structural finesse and long term ageing potential, with controlled extraction and élevage in French oak used to integrate structure without dominating the wine.

Hautes Côtes de Nuits Rouge is sourced from higher altitude vineyards above the Côte de Nuits, where cooler conditions and limestone rich soils produce a more lifted and linear expression of Pinot Noir. These elevated sites tend to emphasise freshness and aromatic clarity over the density and power of the lower slopes, while still retaining the structural framework associated with the region. In Cathiard’s hands, the fruit is vinified with careful, controlled extraction to preserve finesse and avoid overemphasis on tannin. Elevage takes place in French oak barrels, with a restrained proportion of new oak to maintain balance and allow the fruit and site to remain clearly defined. The wine shows red cherry, raspberry and cranberry, with violet florals, subtle spice and a light earthy mineral edge. The palate is fresh and finely structured, with supple tannins, bright acidity and a clean, persistent finish that reflects both altitude and the domaine’s precision led style.
