Marco De Bartoli is considered one of Sicily’s winemaking pioneers for his long-standing commitment to the native Sicilian white grape varieties, Grillo and Zibibbo which are produced on two separate estates: the first in Marsala, in western Sicily, the other on the small island of Pantelleria, south-west of Sicily. His belief in the value of traditional methods of production of these grapes and their wines is complemented by his equally strong belief in the future of Sicily as one of Europe’s most vital viticultural areas.

The 2022 Grillo Terzavia Metodo Classico is made from hand harvested Grillo grapes from selected vineyard parcels on calcareous and sandy soils near Marsala. The 2022 vintage featured a cool, dry spring followed by a steady, warm summer, which allowed slow, balanced ripening and preserved natural acidity. The base wine underwent spontaneous fermentation before secondary fermentation in bottle using the traditional Metodo Classico, with extended ageing on lees to develop texture and fine, persistent bubbles. The wine displays aromas of citrus blossom, white peach and almond, with a crisp, vibrant palate, fine mousse and a mineral-driven, lingering finish. It is an elegant, refreshing sparkling wine that showcases the Grillo grape and Marco de Bartoli’s signature style.
