Weingut Joh. Jos. Prüm is one of the defining estates of the Middle Mosel, internationally recognised for producing benchmark Riesling from steep blue slate vineyards with extraordinary longevity and finesse. The estate has remained family run for generations and is known for a deeply traditional, non interventionist philosophy that prioritises vineyard expression above all else. Their holdings include some of the most revered sites in Germany, including Wehlener Sonnenuhr, Graacher Himmelreich and Bernkasteler Badstube, where steep slopes and Devonian slate soils create ideal conditions for slow ripening and precise acid retention. Viticulture is highly selective and labour intensive, with hand harvesting in multiple passes to capture different levels of ripeness and botrytis development. In the cellar, fermentation is spontaneous and often extremely slow, taking place in traditional large oak Fuder casks, with long lees contact and minimal intervention to preserve clarity and aromatic definition.

Graacher Himmelreich Auslese Goldkapsel is sourced from one of the most expressive sections of the Graach vineyard, where blue slate soils and a slightly more sheltered exposure compared to neighbouring sites produce wines with both richness and finely etched precision. The Goldkapsel designation indicates a highly selective Auslese bottling, typically drawn from particularly ripe, often botrytised berries selected during late harvest passes, resulting in greater concentration and intensity than standard Auslese. The vineyard’s steep, south west facing slopes allow for excellent ripening while preserving the high natural acidity that defines Mosel Riesling. Fermentation is carried out spontaneously in traditional Mosel Fuder casks, proceeding very slowly over extended periods, which allows residual sugar, acidity and aromatic complexity to integrate seamlessly. The wine shows a deeply layered aromatic profile of ripe apricot, peach and candied citrus alongside honey, white flowers, slate and subtle spice. The palate is rich yet weightless, with a striking interplay between luscious sweetness and piercing acidity, finishing long, pure and mineral driven with a saline slate tension that is characteristic of Graacher Himmelreich in its finest expressions.
