Summer Wolff is a small, family run estate based in the hills around Monferrato, in southern Piemonte, Italy. The Wolff family works compact vineyard parcels on calcareous and clay soils, focusing on low intervention and organic viticulture. Their philosophy is to let the vineyard express its site, crafting wines that are fresh, transparent and approachable while respecting traditional Piedmontese practices. Each cuvée is carefully monitored from hand harvesting to spontaneous fermentation, producing wines with vitality, clarity and a sense of place.
The 2023 GioGio Freisa Vino Rosso comes from hand harvested Freisa grapes, an ancient Piedmontese variety known for its aromatic, slightly spritzy character and bright red fruit profile. The 2023 vintage was marked by a cool spring and warm, even summer, producing healthy, balanced fruit with natural freshness and moderate sugar levels. Fermentation occurred spontaneously in open vats with gentle extraction, followed by brief maturation in neutral vessels to preserve the grape’s aromatic lift and lively acidity. The wine displays vibrant cherry and red berry aromas, a touch of spice and subtle floral notes, all framed by supple, refreshing tannins. It is an expressive, energetic red that captures the Freisa grape’s character with clarity and finesse.
