Gevrey-Chambertin Le Clos, Domaine Duroché 2023
Domaine Duroché
Domaine Duroché is a family estate based in Gevrey Chambertin, now led by Pierre Duroché, who has steadily established the domaine as one of the most precise and articulate voices in the northern Côte de Nuits. Since taking over from his father Gilles, Pierre has refined both vineyard and cellar work with a clear emphasis on purity, balance and site transparency. The domaine holds a strong range of parcels across Gevrey Chambertin, including several Premier and Grand Cru sites, with viticulture focused on careful vineyard management, low yields and meticulous harvest timing. In the cellar, the approach is defined by control and precision, with measured extraction and élevage designed to integrate seamlessly with the fruit rather than mark the wine.
Le Clos is a village level Gevrey Chambertin cuvée drawn from enclosed or partially enclosed vineyard parcels, typically situated on deeper clay limestone soils that give a slightly broader and more structured profile within the appellation. Compared to lighter village sites, these parcels tend to deliver more depth through the mid palate while retaining the firm, mineral backbone characteristic of Gevrey. In Duroché’s hands, the wine is handled with a parcel specific approach, with carefully controlled extraction to preserve both structure and clarity. Elevage takes place in French oak barrels with a restrained and well integrated use of new oak, ensuring the fruit and site remain clearly defined. The wine shows red and dark cherry, wild strawberry and raspberry, with subtle spice, floral lift and a light earthy undertone. The palate is more structured than the more open village cuvées, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a long, composed finish that balances density with precision.
