Domaine de Valcros Banyuls Rimage 2024 is a fortified sweet red wine from the Banyuls AOC in the far south of France on the Mediterranean coast, right by the Spanish border. This wine is produced by Domaine Cazes, at the Clos de Paulilles estate, which works biodynamically and organically in the steep, schist‑rich terraces that define the Banyuls terroir. The vineyard has a long history in the region and the estate focuses on minimal intervention and traditional vin doux naturel methods under the strict appellation rules.
The 2024 Banyuls Rimage is made entirely from Grenache Noir harvested at high ripeness and vinified as a vin doux naturel by mutage during fermentation, where neutral grape spirit is added to arrest fermentation and retain natural sweetness. The wine then macerates on the skins for several weeks and is aged in tank to preserve freshness and fruit character. It offers deep black cherry, fig and prune aromas with rich fruit sweetness balanced by acidity and warmth from the elevated alcohol, making it an expressive dessert wine that also pairs beautifully with blue cheese, chocolate or rich fruit dishes.
