Cyprien Arlaud is part of the third generation at Domaine Arlaud in Morey Saint Denis, a family estate established in the mid twentieth century with holdings across the Côte de Nuits. He has progressively converted the vineyards to organic and biodynamic farming, with a strong emphasis on soil health and precise vineyard work. His approach in the cellar is restrained and detail focused, aiming to translate each site with clarity and finesse rather than power, and his parcels are worked with precision to highlight the nuances of each climat.
Côtes de Nuits Villages is drawn from parcels on the outer limits of the Côte de Nuits, typically from cooler, higher or less central sites that fall just outside the main village appellations. While classified below village level, these vineyards often sit on similar limestone rich soils, giving wines with notable freshness and clarity. Arlaud works with partial whole bunch depending on conditions, fermenting with indigenous yeasts and using gentle extraction to preserve brightness and aromatics. Ageing takes place in French oak with minimal new wood to retain transparency. The wine is bright and approachable, showing red berry fruit, light spice and a subtle earthy note, with fine tannins and a fresh, lifted finish.
