Frédéric Magnien is a négociant based in Morey Saint Denis in the Côte de Nuits, who established his own label in the mid 1990s after working in both his family domaine and wider winemaking roles across Burgundy. His approach is built around sourcing carefully selected fruit from organically or sustainably farmed parcels, with a focus on clear vineyard expression and accessible but well defined Côte de Nuits styles. Over time, he has developed a wide range of cuvées spanning village level wines through to more specific lieu dits, with vinification carried out in a clean, fruit forward style that prioritises purity over heavy extraction.

Côte de Nuits Croix Violette is a village level Pinot Noir sourced from selected parcels within the broader Côte de Nuits, where limestone and clay soils contribute to a balance of structure and red fruit brightness. The cuvée typically reflects a more immediate and approachable expression of the region, with an emphasis on aromatic clarity rather than dense concentration. The wine shows red cherry, raspberry and redcurrant, with floral violet notes, gentle spice and a light earthy undertone. The palate is supple and open, with fine tannins, fresh acidity and a moderately structured finish that retains a sense of linearity rather than weight. Vinification is carried out with a gentle extraction approach in open top vats, followed by élevage in French oak barrels with a modest use of new oak to preserve fruit definition and regional character.
