Domaine du Monteillet is a family‑owned estate in the Condrieu appellation on the right bank of the Rhône Valley near Chavanay. The domaine has been in the Villard/Montez family for generations, and Stéphane Montez now oversees viticulture and winemaking, drawing on experience gained in vineyards around the world. Vineyards lie on steep, terraced slopes supported by dry‑stone walls (“chaillées”) and face south to capture sunlight and preserve aromatic purity. Grapes are hand harvested and sorted, and the estate uses gentle, controlled winemaking techniques to reflect the unique granite‑based terroir.
The 2023 Condrieu from Domaine du Monteillet is made from 100 % Viognier grown on the estate’s Condrieu parcels. Alcohol is 14 % and the wine typically undergoes fermentation in large oak barrels or demi‑muids followed by ageing in a proportion of French oak, combining texture and aromatic intensity with minerality and freshness. Tasting notes describe golden straw colour with ripe orchard and stone fruit aromas, floral notes and a rich yet balanced palate that reflects both the variety and the granite terroir.
