Jean François Ganevat is one of the Jura’s most celebrated and influential winemakers, known for an uncompromising approach to natural viticulture and a remarkable ability to produce wines of both purity and complexity. Based in Rotalier, in the southern Jura, Ganevat works with a diverse collection of traditional Jura varieties alongside carefully selected grapes from outside the region through his négociant project with Anne. Farming organically and biodynamically, with a focus on biodiversity, old vine material and minimal intervention, his wines have become some of the most sought after examples of terroir driven natural winemaking.
La Colline des Dames is a pure expression of Pinot Noir, sourced from organically farmed vineyards in Alsace and vinified by Ganevat in his distinctive low intervention style. Despite being labelled Vin de France, the wine carries the same philosophy as the domaine’s Jura bottlings: careful farming, gentle extraction and preserving the natural energy of the fruit. Hand harvested grapes undergo a cool semi carbonic maceration with indigenous yeasts before ageing in large old oak foudres. Bottled without fining, filtration or added sulphur, the wine shows a beautifully lifted expression of Pinot Noir, with aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, pomegranate and violet alongside subtle spice and earthy complexity. The palate is fresh and fluid, with bright acidity, delicate tannins and an elegant finish that combines the perfume of Alsace Pinot Noir with Ganevat’s unmistakable touch.
