Etienne Bodet is a native of Saumur, where his family domaine is based in Montreuil-Bellay. He trained with Sylvain Pataille, Aurélien Gerbais, Bernard Baudry, François Dal and Romain Guiberteau, his stepfather, and is now also part of the winemaking team at Clos Rougeard. Alongside this, he co-founded Maison Bodet-Herold with his wife Kim Herold, and took over the 1.3 hectare Clos Durandière from his family.
Clos Durandière is planted to Cabernet Franc on rare hard Jurassic limestone, a marked contrast to the soft tuffeau soils that dominate Saumur. The 2022 vintage followed a warm, dry growing season with early ripening, producing small berries with thick skins and concentrated phenolics, balanced by retained acidity from cool nights. Farming is organic and biodynamic, with careful vineyard management to support natural fermentations. In the cellar, Bodet works with non extractive maceration to soften tannins, incorporating up to 35 percent whole clusters, with no punch downs or pump overs. Fermentation occurs without added sulphur, with only around 20 ppm added post fermentation. The wine is aged for approximately two years in mostly used barrels, followed by time in tank and bottle before release. The result is a Cabernet Franc of fine grained tannin, lifted aromatics and marked mineral tension, shaped by the structure and precision of this singular limestone site.
