Etienne Bodet is a native of Saumur, where his family domaine is based in Montreuil-Bellay. He trained with Sylvain Pataille, Aurélien Gerbais, Bernard Baudry, François Dal and Romain Guiberteau, his stepfather, and is now also part of the winemaking team at Clos Rougeard. Alongside this, he co-founded Maison Bodet-Herold with his wife Kim Herold, and took over the 1.3 hectare Clos Durandière from his family.
Clarum 2024 is drawn from the Clos Durandière vineyard, planted to Cabernet Franc on rare hard Jurassic limestone, a marked contrast to the soft tuffeau soils that dominate Saumur. The 2024 vintage was shaped by a cooler, later growing season with intermittent rainfall through spring and a more moderate summer, leading to slower ripening and a focus on aromatic lift and freshness rather than concentration. Farming is organic and biodynamic, with careful vineyard work to maintain balance and support clean fermentations. In the cellar, Bodet follows a non extractive approach, using whole clusters and gentle infusion with no punch downs or pump overs, and no sulphur during fermentation, adding only a small amount post fermentation. Élevage is shorter and in neutral vessels to preserve the wine’s energy and clarity. Unlike the main Clos Durandière cuvée, Clarum prioritises freshness and immediacy over structure and extended tannin integration, offering a more lifted, red fruit and floral expression of the vineyard.
