Alex Moreau is part of the Moreau family of Chassagne Montrachet, working alongside his father Bernard Moreau before establishing his own label and style. Based in the heart of the village, he draws on deep rooted family holdings across some of Chassagne’s most respected sites, with a focus on precise, site driven Chardonnay. Farming is carried out with a strong emphasis on sustainability and vineyard health, and in the cellar his approach is measured and exacting, favouring gentle pressing, controlled fermentations and élevage designed to balance richness with tension. While best known for white wines, his red cuvées follow the same philosophy of restraint, clarity and site transparency, aiming to highlight finesse and aromatic detail over extraction.

This Chassagne Montrachet Vieilles Vignes Rouge comes from older Pinot Noir vines rooted in limestone and clay soils that naturally yield small bunches with concentrated fruit and fine natural acidity. The wine typically reflects a slightly more generous and open profile than Côte de Nuits reds, but with an underlying limestone driven structure from these higher quality village parcels. Fruit is fully destemmed to preserve purity, with a small proportion of whole clusters retained to bring aromatic lift. Fermentation takes place in concrete and open top vats over around 15 days, with gentle daily pump overs and limited pigeage to avoid over extraction. After pressing, the wine is transferred to French oak barrels for 12 months of élevage, with around 15 to 20 percent new oak depending on the vintage, followed by a further 3 months in tank for clarification and integration before bottling without excessive fining or filtration.
